Counselling in 2025 – how the New Futures Project can help you if you’re struggling or teach you how to support others

There are plenty of opportunities to take your first steps on the path to qualifying as a therapist by enrolling on the training courses the New Futures Project is offering in 2025.

Of course, we are also a provider of counselling to those in need of help. It’s the core of what we do here.

This includes our new low-cost service, which went live in September last year to meet the growing demand for

 we offer here.

These sessions – which are open to men and women – take place exclusively online and for a fee determined by a client’s ability to pay.

At the time, our director Della Kagure Brown explained how the new service would work alongside our existing counselling for those who have lived through sexual assault or exploitation and other traumatic experiences.

Della said: “We offer counselling as part of our wrap-round support for women who are in crisis or who have experienced sexual abuse or exploitation. They receive free counselling and this will remain the case.

“However, we are also receiving lots of requests for counselling from people who are not necessarily in crisis but who feel they need our support.

“We have made it low-cost and income-based for each hourly session. The minimum will be £15 for each session, going up to £40 – which is less expensive than private counselling.

“This is part of our long-term plan to increase earned income for the charity which supports our eventual aim of becoming self-sustainable.”

Speaking this week, Della urged people who are struggling with their mental health to contact us.

She said: “If you have baggage in your past you feel ready to lay down why not access counselling through our low-cost counselling services?

“Our minimum fee for an hours counselling is £15 – less than a packet of cigarettes. And by seeing a counsellor through New Futures you are supporting us to support someone in crisis.”

On the other hand, we are also keen to do what we can to train the therapists of the future.

Della continued: “Do your friends say you’re a good listener? Are you the one who people turn to when things go wrong for them? Then you may have a real gift and maybe you could make a change and become a counsellor.

“Our courses will take you all the way through from an absolute beginner to qualified and studying with us means your course fees will go towards supporting women and girls in crisis.”

Our professional training courses are externally validated and accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body, (CPCAB)

We also offer counselling by qualified counsellors and those in training, working closely with both the CPCAB and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, (BACP), to ensure all counselling we provide is ethical and fit for purpose.

The starting dates for our courses this year are:

  • Level 2 Fast-track – Saturday, April 26

  • Level 2 – Tuesday, September 8

  • Level 3 – Monday, September 7

  • Level 4 – Wednesday, September 9

  • Level 5 Integrative – Thursday, September 10
