A wonderful donation from our friends at Leicester Rotary's Impact Group

We were delighted recently to receive a large donation of clothes and toiletries from our friends at The Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group.

The donation was from their Community Action Project which supports good causes across the city and beyond.

Their timing was impeccable because, only a couple of days earlier, we had issued an appeal for donations of clothing and toiletries because our stocks were running low.

Women come to the project for all kinds of reasons. Some of the more vulnerable and socially isolated take the opportunity to have a shower and to do their laundry before enjoying hot, freshly cooked food.

They can also choose some items from our clothing bank and pick up some toiletries and sanitary products.

Every minute of contact with the women here is vital. We use this time to gain their trust and to put together detailed plans to help them in the short and long term.

Babs Marson, a member of the Rotary's Impact Group, told us: "A member of the team at New Futures came to speak to us and explained what it does.

"We were all very impressed and decided to support the project and the very important work it does."

Babs is a member of the congregation at Stoneygate Baptist Church, which stores donations before they are distributed.

Diana Esho, the Impact Group lead invited Della Kagure Brown, director of the New Futures Project, said: "New Futures is such a special place and the drop-in is the heart of it.

"We are so grateful to everyone at The Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group and to all the other people in our community who support our work."

Apart from clothing, here's a rough guide to the kind of donations we need regularly:

• Antibacterial hand gel

• Water wipes

• Feminine wipes

• Tampons

• Sanitary towels

• Toothpaste

• Toothbrush

• Body cream

• Breakfast bars

We are in London Road, just a short distance up the road from Leicester railway station and parking is available nearby.

The New Futures Project offers a comprehensive welfare and counselling service for women and young people dealing with sexual abuse or exploitation, domestic violence, trafficking, poverty and debt, substance use or mental ill-health.
