The New Futures Project Christmas Appeal: Help us support the most vulnerable women we know

We are determined to do everything we can to ensure the women and girls we support are not left lonely and in need at Christmas.

Whether living with homelessness, poverty, ill-health, abuse, or simply loneliness, this time of year can be particularly tough for a significant number of the women we see here.

So, each year we issue an appeal, asking well-wishers to donate small, simple treats we can hand out as Christmas presents.

We're thinking of new and unused perfumes, toiletries, spa sets, make-up, and so forth…..

We receive donations throughout the year, in the main food and clothing. These can be life-changing - in some cases life-saving - for the women and girls we support.

Well, an unexpected Christmas gift can, at least for a while, brighten a life.

Helen Sharp, business development manager at the New Futures Project, said: "Winter can be an especially difficult season for many of the women we support, who may be facing isolation, financial hardship or personal challenges with little or no support network around them.

"At a time when the cold and darkness can intensify feelings of loneliness, every donation is a powerful reminder that they are cared for and not facing their struggles alone.

"Your generosity helps provide warmth, comfort and essential support — small acts that can make a profound difference in their wellbeing during the toughest months of the year."

For obvious reasons, we are particularly keen just now to speak to people who can donate warm winter clothing, as well as other practical items such as sleeping bags or blankets,

Many of the women we support, particularly those who are sleeping outdoors or who are drifting from address to address, are especially vulnerable when the temperature drops.

Meanwhile, many of those who have a roof over their heads frequently tell us they are struggling with the rising cost of living, including their heating bills.

We want to do what we can to help them through the coldest period of the year.

In that case, this is our donations wish-list:

  • Warm clothes – Winter coats, good quality knitwear, gloves, scarves and sturdy shoes.

  • Sleeping bags and bedding

  • Cup-a-soup, tea, coffee and hot chocolate

  • Tinned food

If you think you can help us, get in touch. In some cases we can arrange collection.

Otherwise, there is good parking nearby for those who would like to drop off their donations to our office.
