Meet Beth and Savan - they're helping us keep women warm and fed as temperatures plummet

A lovely couple made a timely gesture of support for the women we support - and we'd like to tell the world just how grateful we are.

Beth Womersley and her partner Savan Zinzuwadia got in touch last month to tell us they had put together a package of food and warming winter clothing for us to pass on to our most impoverished clients.

When they dropped in on us shortly before Christmas, we gave them a tour of our building and told them all about what we do and what drives us on.

Then, we told them we would like to write a story about their kind donation and asked them to spell out why they had chosen the New Futures Project.

“As a couple, we chose to donate because we both believe that support for women should be accessible to everyone who needs it," Beth told us.

"Growing up in very different backgrounds has shaped our understanding of how circumstances can affect opportunities and access to help.

"We know that for many women, reaching out for support can feel overwhelming or even impossible, and that’s why community organisations like the New Futures Project matter so much.

"They break down barriers for women and provide practical essentials in a way that feels safe.

"By donating this Christmas, we wanted to play a small part in that mission - helping women feel valued and supported when they need it most.”

We receive donations throughout the year, in the main food and clothing. These can be life-changing - in some cases life-saving - for the women and girls we support.

At the moment, we are particularly keen to hear from people who can donate warm winter items such as coats, jumpers/cardies, woolly hats, scarves, socks, shoes/boots, as well as blankets and sleeping bags.

Avril Lewis, crisis support manager at the New Futures Project, said: "We're very grateful to Beth and Savan for their donation.

"It was very thoughtful of them and we will make sure everything they brought in will go to those who need them most.

"They also bought some treats for the ladies, including biscuits - and those will always be welcome."

In the run-up to Christmas, we're also asking well-wishers to donate small, simple treats we can hand out to the women, perhaps new and unused perfumes, toiletries, spa sets, and make-up.

Apart from clothing, here's a rough guide to the kind of donations we need throughout the year:
